Biography

Larry (Chen-Yun) Weng is a patent law practitioner who has extensive experience in patent prosecution, licensing, and litigation, having prosecuted over hundreds of patent applications throughout his professional career. He is fluent in English, Mandarin Chinese, and Taiwanese, which allows him to communicate effectively with a diverse clientele.

Before joining Wang IP Law Group, Mr. Weng received his Master of Laws and Certificate in Technology & Entrepreneurship Law from the University of Southern California (USC) Gould School of Law. He graduated with high honors as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and won second place at the 2023 USPTO National Patent Application Drafting Competition.

Mr. Weng also previously attained a Master of Science in Physics from the prestigious National Central University in Taiwan. He began his career working as an engineer for Taiwanese electronics companies, before becoming a patent engineer at the legal department of PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he drafted patent claims and specifications in Chinese and English, responded to complex patent office actions, and performed extensive patent searches.

After he was admitted to the Taiwan Bar and the Taiwan Intellectual Property Office, Mr. Weng became a patent attorney at a premier Taiwanese IP law firm, and counseled high-profile clients around the world in patent strategy, prosecution, and litigation. Thereafter, he moved on to work as an in-house attorney at the elite Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), where he handled hundreds of cases pertaining to technology research contracts and development, intellectual property licensing, technology transfer, and non-disclosure agreements (NDA). Additionally, Mr. Weng published research articles in the Taiwan Patent Attorney’s Journal and provided expert consultation services to the IP division of ITRI, offering valuable insights and conducting comprehensive patent infringement analyses.
