Sometimes when you sign a contract, you later find a need to get out of it. Generally, a contract in California is binding, meaning you have to honor it. However, there are some specific things that can void a contract and allow you to get out of it, according to USA Today.

One of the easiest ways to get out of a contract is if the other person breaks the contract first. If you can show the other party violated a term of the contract, then it is no longer valid and binding.

You may also have a chance to void a contract if you can show there is something illegal about it. For example, if you or the other party was not of the legal age when you signed it, then it would become invalid. Also, if either of you were not able to consent due to a mental condition or other incapacitating issue, the contract is void. Proving fraud in some detail of the transaction also allows you to break a contract.

Finally, the wording of the contract is important. If the contract does not have specific and clear wording, you may be able to claim you were unaware that something specific is part of the agreement. For a contract to bind you to an agreement, you have to know what you are agreeing to.

Read your contract carefully and make sure it is completely legal. You may find the loophole you need to get out of it. This information is for education and is not legal advice.
